    Unlock locked Mac

If your Mac appears to be frozen and one or more applications are not responding, press the key combination cmd+alt+esc on the keyboard in order to call up the panel for forced closing of the programs. On some Apple computer models, the alt is called option (opt), but its position is always the same: next to the cmd key, which in turn is on the left of the space bar. The esc key, on the other hand, is located at the top left.

Once you have pressed the combination of keys in question, the window should appear with the list of all the programs running on the Mac and, at the bottom, the button Forced exit. Therefore, identify the software that you think may have caused the macOS block (those that do not respond are written unresponsive, in brackets, next to their name) and force close it by first clicking on its name and then on the button Forced exit per due turn consecutive.

    How to unlock Mac

If after pressing the key combination cmd+alt+esc nothing happens on the Mac keyboard, try to repeat the operation. Also, if you are currently using afull screen application, to close it and return to the macOS desktop, try pressing the key e keypad several times in a row.

If, on the other hand, you are able to view the macOS desktop but the window for the forced closing of applications does not appear, identify the program causing the block (or the one that you think is the cause of the block) in the Dock bar long click on its icon and select the item Forced exit from the menu that appears. If in the menu that appears you do not see the option for forced exit, make it appear by pressing and holding the key alt / option of the keyboard.

    How to unlock Mac

Is your Mac not completely frozen but it goes very slowly and does it have moments of "freeze" every now and then? Then most likely there is an application that is abnormally engaging the computer's processor.

To find out which applications are taking the most from your Mac's processor, open the application Activity monitoring from the folder Other of Launchpad (or search for it via Spotlight), select the tab CPU and click on the column title % CPU to sort the list of processes that "consume" the most processor forces.

If, looking at the list of running processes, you notice any that make an abnormal use of the CPU, close the related application and try to restart it: the problem should be solved. If not, try to find an online solution by contacting specialized forums or the assistant of the software house that produced the program. If the process that consumes too much CPU is not related to a program that you see in the MacOS Dock bar, you can command it to close by selecting its name in Activity monitoring e clicking on your button [X] which is located at the top left. You can find more information about this in my guide on how to kill a process on Mac.

    How to unlock Mac

In severe cases, when a Mac locked does not respond to any command, all that remains is to force it to stop by holding down the power button until the computer turns off. At the next start, macOS will propose to resume work where it was left by opening all the programs that were running before the forced restart of the computer.

Among the applications that allow you to unlock the Mac with the iPhone, I point out Unlox (evolution of the old MacID), which works really well and allows you to log in to macOS using both the Touch ID of all the latest iPhone models and the Face ID of the iPhone X.
